Director- Matt Jewson.
As a former member of CO2 we are delighted that Matt will be directing our 40th anniversary show. Matt is currently a lecturer in acting and musical theatre at UCC having previously lectured at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He’s no stranger to the Mercury where he was an engagement producer and has directed Mercury Young Company.
Musical Director- Rob Miles.
Rob is an MD and vocal coach who previously worked with us in 2012 on Guys and Dolls. He is currently Head of Singing at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where he also heads up the Foundation Acting course, but is also a familiar face on the Colchester musical theatre scene.
Choreographer- Sarah-Rose James.
Sarah is the principal of Donovan’s Academy. She also teaches at Colchester Institute and UCC and has choreographed for numerous productions including corporate events. This is Sarah’s first time working with the society and she’s looking forward to working with us as much as we’re looking forward to working with her!

We saw 73 auditionees and with such a high standard of singing, dancing and acting our panel had the unenviable and difficult task of casting only 45 of them. Whether cast or not we think everyone who auditioned should be proud of themselves.
We thank all of our audition panel, our readers, members of our committee and all who auditioned for their time and for helping the day run smoothly and enabling us to cast this show. We can’t wait to start rehearsals in September.
This wonderful concert showcases songs from artists such as Queen, ABBA, Carole King, The Kinks, Elton John, Jim Steinman, and many more. The concert combines the music and lyrics of the most iconic composers, songwriters and performers whose work or life stories have been used to inspire and create some of the most well-known and well-loved pieces of musical theatre and film in recent history.
