Did you miss it?
Or
Did you watch it live and want to watch it again?
Don’t worry our popular Celebrate COS concert is now available on YouTube!
Established in 1924
Join us for a viewing party on Friday 18th December 7.30pm on Facebook for our first ever virtual concert #CelebrateCOS.
We have put together a collection of songs from shows & concerts that COS/CO2 have performed over the years, performed and recorded by some of our talented members during the second lockdown.
Interact with other viewers through a live watch party and if you drop us a Facebook message on the night we will send you a Zoom link to join the virtual after party straight afterwards.
If you enjoy the evening you can make a donation to show your support. Donations will be split between Colchester Operatic Society and Colchester Foodbank. Colchester Foodbank is seeded by The Trussell Trust who support a nationwide network of food banks to help provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, whilst also campaigning for change to end the need for food banks in the UK .
We can’t wait to see you!
Colchester Operatic Society wants to know what you think about our membership.
Whilst we are unable to put on our usual productions during this pandemic, we want to use the time to improve your Society for the future. Your views can help us improve our membership to reflect the needs of our members and even encourage new members to join. If you can spare 5 minutes to share your views by completing our Membership Survey 2020, we will enter you into a draw to win a year’s free membership for COS/CO2 as a thank you.
The survey will remain open until 18-12-2020, after which we will randomly select a winner from all the survey responses. We will contact the winner by the email address provided on their survey.
The more people we hear from, the better picture we get of our members, prospective members and supporters views so please feel free to share this survey.
Join us for our first ever Virtual Concert – “Celebrate COS”.
As we have not been able to gather for rehearsals or performances this year, and we know you are itching to exercise those vocal chords, we would like to invite you to send in a video of yourself performing any number from a past COS or CO2 show, so that we can celebrate the times we have had together and get excited about performing again!
What do you need to do?
Complete our online interest form by Monday 16th November to register your interest, and let us know up to 3 songs you would like to perform. Once we have received all interest, and so that we can ensure there are no duplicates, you will then receive an email confirming which number we would like you to film. This will then need to be received no later than Monday 30th November.
The number can be a solo, include people from your household / bubble where appropriate or, if you are able to, include a group of people recording together virtually! (Please note, by sending a video you consent for anyone shown on camera to be uploaded online).
You will need to find your own backing track (try searching Spotify or YouTube for karaoke versions) or are very welcome to accompany yourself or include members of your family / bubble to play.
If you need some inspiration or are not sure what shows have been performed by COS/CO2 in the past, you can find an archive of programmes and information on past shows under the “shows” tab. You could also send any performance photos you might have along with your video so we can all enjoy the memories together.
The concert will be streamed and available to watch online in December.
The concert will also include a selection of numbers performed by our incredible lockdown “Isolation Choir”.
We are missing you all so much, and know that we are all desperate to support the arts and get back to doing what we have loved for so many years, so we hope to see lots of your lovely faces and hear all your beautiful voices for this very special event.
If you are not a member or haven’t renewed your membership this year but want to take part, then please still register your interest. Membership for the year is only £10 and will give you access to our members Facebook group, quarterly members newsletters, performance opportunities, reduced price workshop opportunities and social events.
If you have any more questions, or difficulty using the online form, then please contact us on colchesteroperaticsociety@gmail.com as soon as you can!
Dear Members,
We hope you are all keeping well and staying safe at home as much as possible. As with the rest of the country, Colchester Operatic Society has had to adapt its usual way of working to align with the current National crisis.
The CO2 workshop for Fame was held just before the Government advised for all clubs and groups to stop meeting. This was quickly followed by the announcement that Schools were to close, so we instantly postponed all rehearsals and the auditions for Fame. As things continue to move quickly, the Executive Committee have had to make the difficult decision to postpone all our planned productions for the next year. This includes Fame (CO2) and Shrek (COS).
As we cannot be sure when this crisis will pass and for the security of the Society we have made the decision not to put down any further deposits for services for any productions that may not be able to go ahead. At this point in time we cannot give any exact dates for when these postponed productions will be able to go ahead but we will be aiming for Fame in September 2021 and Shrek in Jan/Feb 2022. We understand how disappointing this decision is, but it is the right decision to make to safeguard our society financially, and to safeguard our members’ health during this pandemic.
This will be the first gap in productions since wartime in the Society’s history, highlighting just how extraordinary this situation is.
Once the crisis has passed, we will of course look to organising some workshops, as well as potentially organising a smaller scale production, depending on the timing and when it is safe to do so.
We will be keeping in touch with our members regularly through email, social media and this website.
